Our History

 

In the early 20th century, a young man named Mike Kessimakis left his home in Souda, Crete, with dreams of a better life in America. After years of hard work in the steel mills of West Virginia and Ohio and later in a Florida hospital, Mike eventually settled in Murray, Utah, where he planted the roots of his new life.

 

In 1937, he founded Kessimakis Produce with a simple but powerful vision: to bring the same quality, honesty, and integrity he cherished in Greece to his new home in Utah. Mike’s sons, Dale and Gary, carried on their father’s legacy, expanding operations from the Wasatch Front to Ogden and Provo, while maintaining the family’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

That proud tradition continued with grandsons Michael and James and great-granddaughter Jamie, representing the third and fourth generations of Kessimakis leadership.

 

In 2018, Brian Nelson joined the ownership team, bringing with him over 30 years of experience in broadline distribution and a strong background in the restaurant industry. His expertise and fresh perspective have strengthened Kessimakis Produce’s ability to serve Utah’s foodservice community with the same dedication and dependability that have defined the company for nearly a century.

 

Together, the Kessimakis family and Brian Nelson continue to uphold four generations of excellence—ensuring that Kessimakis Produce remains Utah’s trusted source for the freshest, highest-quality wholesale produce.
